Moorings on Bear Lake

For boat moorings we install the Eco-Mooring system: a helix anchor screwed into the lake bottom and an elastic rode that stretches to absorb wind and wave load instead of jerking against it. Not every job needs that much hold, so we also set lighter anchoring for swim buoys, marker buoys, and similar floats. If you already have a mooring in the water, ask us about a seasonal inspection.

What this looks like on Bear Lake

The Eco-Mooring system replaces the traditional concrete block and heavy chain. A helix anchor holds by being screwed into the bottom rather than by sitting on it, and the elastic rode floats above the bottom instead of dragging across it. There is no chain to scour the lakebed, nothing to rust, and a smaller swing circle for the boat on it.

Sizing still matters. A mooring that holds a small runabout is not the mooring for a heavier boat with more windage, and bottom composition changes how an anchor sets. We size the anchor and rode to your boat and your spot rather than selling one standard package.

Buoys are a lighter job. Swim area markers, marker buoys, and other floats that are not holding a boat do not need a helix anchor, and we set them with anchoring that fits the load.

Bear Lake can go from flat to high winds quickly, and a mooring is what your boat is riding out that weather on. It is worth knowing yours is right.

Common questions

Why a helix anchor instead of a concrete block?
A helix anchor is screwed into the bottom, so it holds by the soil around it instead of by dead weight. Paired with an elastic rode, there is no chain dragging the bottom and no steel corroding under the buoy.
Can you set a swim or marker buoy?
Yes. Buoys that are not holding a boat get a lighter anchoring setup sized to what they need to hold.
How often should a mooring be inspected?
Once a season is a reasonable baseline, because the wear happens underwater where you cannot see it. On older chain moorings, the chain at the swivel and the shackles are the usual failure points.
Can you service a mooring you did not install?
Yes. We inspect and service existing moorings on Bear Lake regardless of who set them originally.
